The Mist

Rated: NC16
Distributor: Scorpio East Entertainment

This relatively low-budget horror-thriller stars Thomas Jane as David Drayton, a painter who is trapped in a supermarket, along with his son and dozens of other shoppers, by a mysterious mist that contains unspeakable beasties from another dimension. Drayton becomes the group’s level-headed leader, but he’s undermined at every turn by religious fanatic Mrs Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden), who is convinced they are witnessing the end of days.

The Mist is as much a story about man versus man as it is about man versus monsters, but ultimately, it becomes a tale of one man versus himself. When Drayton finally leaves the supermarket with his boy and a few followers, hope vanishes, along with their land cruisers petrol, forcing Drayton to make inconceivably difficult decisions, which leads to a shocking, shocking, shocking ending. What a great movie.

Extras include interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. -JJ
