Salawati

Director: Marc X. Grigaroff
Cast: Mastura Ahmad, Aisyah Masgot
Release Date: Oct 9

Salawati is mournful, melancholic and a whole lot of similarly morose words. It is not just depressing, it's dull. The story revolves around young Wati, whose brother tragically drowned, and everyone else involved in the accident, who are all trying to move on with life. Told in a mixture of Malay, Mandarin and Tamil, the only bright spot in this local melodrama are when the Indian actors engage in their native banter often with dirty results! Really, swearing in Tamil is so much fun. But we still can't care enough for the characters to root for this movie. -Lisa Twang
